The Auerberg (1055 m), a foothill of the Bavarian Alps, is one of my favorite lookouts in southern Bavaria. It has a relatively famous sibling 22 km air-line distance to the northeast, the Peißenberg. When I lived rather close to it, I often went up the Auerberg by bike for training purposes. Attached to the St. George's church building on the summit, there is an observation platform, reachable via a tight staircase in the tower. An impressive experience is also the church bells which might start ringing just next to you.
Today, the mood was very special: the summit barely escaped the winter fog. While we admired the views of the nearby mountain range, a bitterly cold wind was driving wafts of mist which partially obscured the scene - fantastic!
